Averell Spicer, DE, 6-2, 265, 4.6, RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CALIFORNIA:
JH: How did your summer go?
AS: "It went very well. It was a lot of hard work, but I got through it and now I am getting close to the season. I weigh about 265 pounds going into the season, and my last bench press that we tested I got up 335 pounds. I went to the Oregon State football camp early this summer and really enjoyed myself. I did very well at the camp and had a great time."
JH: How good is your team going to be?
AS: "We have probably the biggest team that we have had in a while. We have a lot of big offensive and defensive linemen. It looks like it is going to work out for the best, but we really don't know at this time how it is going to turn out."
JH: Aren't you the biggest guy on the team?
AS: "I am 6-2, 265, and I am not close to being the biggest guy on our team. We have about seven or eight guys that are bigger than me. That is basically our offensive line and our d-tackles."
JH: Are you going to move around on defense or will you line-up only at defensive end?
AS: "I am going to play defensive end and I am very confident that I am going to have a great season. I have a couple of goals that I am going to meet. I want to have a 20-sack year, and I want to be ranked the best defensive end in the nation at the end of season."
JH: How many schools have offered you?
AS: "I have been offered by 19 schools."
JH: Have you narrowed your down your choices at all?
AS: "I have my choices down to eight schools. I am looking at USC, Florida State, OU, LSU, Nebraska, Michigan, Oregon and Oregon State."
JH: What are your thoughts on Oklahoma?
AS: "I like them a lot, but I haven't heard much from them yet and I haven't had a lot of time to talk to them. I am looking forward to hearing from Oklahoma. They have a great program and played for the National Championship in the Sugar Bowl. I really don't know much of anything about Oklahoma. I am looking forward to talking to their coaches in early September. I will probably take a visit to Oklahoma."
JH: Do you have a leader?
AS: "No. I am not leaning toward anybody."
JH: Have you set up any visits?
AS: "I have one visit set up this weekend at Nebraska."
JH: What are some of the main things that you are going to look at in recruiting?
AS: "I am going to look at the depth chart. It has to be a good school that is known for winning because I want to be put in a position that I can win some games. It also has to be a good school that I can get a good quality education."
