RECRUITING: Does Mitchell have a new favorite?

San Francisco City College linebacker Lance Mitchell talks about winning the juco state title and his trip to Texas

JH: Congratulations on your great state championship?

LM: We won 61-12 and totally dominated the game. Honestly that was our 'A' game and we did not have an 'A' game as team all season. I think we had an average season this year, because we never came close to grading out at all 'A's, however we did in the championship.

JH: How did you play individually in the game? LM: They were more of a passing team and I didn't finish with that many tackles in the game. They didn't run much, but I bet it wasn't over six or so."

JH: You have to be proud how well your defense played in the game?

LM: Yes, when I think about it. I really don't think to much about it. I just go out and play ball. I think about how hard we worked, because we worked very hard. An example would be our free safety who wore No. 5, because he was five times better this year.

JH: What are your thoughts on your visit to Texas?

LM: I really liked Texas. Everybody was real cool, because I was down there Sunday and Monday, and I kind of enjoyed myself without that football atmosphere. I walked around like a normal student, while at the other places I was at a game and everything was moving so fast. The students and players were in finals, but they were very cool with me and still showed me a good time. The players and coaches were real cool. Austin is a cool place.

JH: What about the Texas football program?

LM: They have a real nice football program down there. They have a great tradition and a great Coach in Mack Brown.

JH: Do you have a favorite at this time?

LM: I am up in the air and still trying to decide. I don't have a favorite, because I can't narrow it down until after I take my last visit this Friday to Florida. I would say that USC is probably out of it, because I can't get into school there until spring. I don't really have an interest in Washington anymore either?

JH: Other sites have indicated that you have rated teams in an order, is that true?

LM: I have never ranked schools and I won't until my recruiting is over.

JH: What are your thoughts on the three schools you seem to still have an interest in?

LM: I really like Oklahoma and I feel comfortable with Coach (Brent) Venables as a personal coach. Florida is a school that I am still trying to find out some things about. Coach Ricky Hundley came down and visited me last week. Texas was nice.
