RECRUITING: Sooners even with Miami for Bennett?

Houston, Texas tight end Martellus Bennett talks about his visit to Norman.

Martellus Bennett, TE, 6-6, 240, 4.75, HOUSTON (TAYLOR HS), TEXAS:

JH: How did your visit to Oklahoma?

MB: "It went good. I like the atmosphere and the players had a good chemistry and bond with the coaches. I could tell that I could fit in up there because the players are real and they already made me feel like I was a part of the team. The atmosphere was great. When I pulled up on Friday people were already at the stadium setting up tents and stuff and getting ready for the game. The fans were unbelievable. The coaches were real and they didn't try to sugarcoat anything with me. They shot straight with me and that is what I wanted to hear."

JH: You mentioned that the coaches were straight with you. What do you mean by that?

MB: "They were talking to me about the situation with the players and what is going on with them. We talked about everything on the team and they answered every question. The players are straight forward to."

JH: Did you get out in Norman a little bit? And if you did, what did you think?

MB: "Yes, I got out on the town a little bit and really enjoyed it. It is a small town, but on the day of the game everybody came to Norman. The town was pretty with some great trees and things. I thought I was going to see some chickens, cows, and I thought the people were still going to be riding horses. But I found out that Norman is a mini-city with Oklahoma City right up the road. I think Norman would be a great place to live."

JH: Now that you have visited OU what kind of chances do the Sooners have to sign you?

MB: "OU is the same with Miami right now. Those are my top two schools, but I am also going to Texas sometime soon and Arizona as well. I am still committed to Miami, but there is an equal chance that I will sign with Oklahoma."

JH: You also met with Kelvin Sampson and his staff. How did that visit go?

MB: "It went good. They want me to play basketball. They watched a lot of my games this summer and they feel I can be a good asset on their team. I knew Coach (Ray) McCallum already because he came to a lot of my games this past year. The coaches were real cool and they also have a good relationship with their players."
