RECRUITING: Forney speedster close to committing

The latest on Forney, Texas speedster DaBryan Blanton

The Oklahoma Sooners are very close to getting a verbal commitment from Forney, Texas speedster DaBryan Blanton.

"I am very close to pulling the trigger," Blanton said just a few minutes ago in a phone conversation with this reporter. "I met with Coach (Brent) Venables today and had a great visit with him. He stressed that OU would like to know something, because OU is running out of scholarships. I understand their situation and right now they are a solid leader with me, so I am thinking about helping them out. I already have visits set with LSU this weekend and Tennessee the next and I really don't know what to do."

It's clear that Coach Venables has done a tremendous job recruiting Blanton. The Sooners have pulled away from Tennessee, but the fact that Blanton is still visiting is a concern. However, there is a chance that Blanton won't take that visit to Cajun country this weekend.

"There is a chance that I could commit before this weekend," said Blanton. "My mom and I are talking that over right now. My mom really likes OU and so do I, so we may go ahead and get it over with. However, I think I should take those visits just to make sure I am making the right decision. I am really not sure what I am going to do or what I need to do."

At this point the Sooners have never been in better shape than they are right now with Blanton and all indications are that he is going to commit to the Sooners. The key question is when will Blanton pull the trigger?
