Sooner women rout OSU, 70-43

Higgins leads the way with 14 as OU improves their win streak to 12 games over the Cowgirls.

NORMAN — Score round one of this year's Bedlam Women's Basketball series to Oklahoma.

Sophomore guard Erin Higgins hit four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 14 points in the Sooners' 70-43 rout of Oklahoma State in front of the largest home crowd (5,832) of the season Wednesday night in Norman.

"I thought we started the game pretty well and started each half pretty well even though we missed some shots early in the game," said OU head coach Sherri Coale, who celebrated her 40th birtday on Wednesday. "We got open looks, we pushed the ball in transition, and we forced them into mistakes."

The Cowgirls took an early 3-0 and 7-5 lead, but a pair of Dionnah Jackson free throws at the 16:31 mark tied the game. Leah Rush scored on OU's next possession to give the Sooners their first lead and ignite a 15-3 run over the next seven minutes to break the game open for good as OU took a 20-point halftime lead and never looked back.

"I thought OU did a great job. Their players were ready to score," said Cowgirl head coach Julie Goodenough. "They did a good job defensively and forced a lot of turnovers in the first half, and they scored off of those. They just got us down too far at half time."

The win marks the 12th straight victory for the Sooners over the Cowgirls. OU improved to 10-5 and 2-2 in Big 12 play, while OSU falls to 5-10 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
