EDMOND — Five-star safety Reggie Smith ended over a year of speculation on Wednesday morning when he signed a letter of intent with Oklahoma.

Smith was rumored to be favoring Nebraska during the last several months, but said he chose the Sooners over the Trojans, not the Cornhuskers.

"It was a really tough decision between Oklahoma and USC," Smith said to a group of reporters shortly after announcing his decision before several hundred students in his high school gymnasium. "I eliminated Nebraska last night."

Smith said he made his final decision this morning.

"Distance was a big factor," said Smith. "Both USC and Nebraska are great schools. If they were a little bit closer who knows, it might have been different. But Oklahoma is a great school with a great program, and I saw it as a big opportunity."
