Taj Gray had a lot of hype to live up this season at Oklahoma, and the junior forward from Wichita, Kan. did just that.
Gray, who was picked as the preseason newcomer of the year in the Big 12, fulfilled that promise and more when he was officially named the conference's Newcomer of the Year on Monday.
The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and two blocked shots a game. Gray is just the third Sooner to win the award since Corey Brewer (1997) and Ebi Ere (2002).
In addition to his newcomer of the year honor, Gray was picked as an All-Big 12 First-team selection, joining Joey Graham and John Lucas from Oklahoma State, Wayne Simien from Kansas, and Ronald Ross from Texas Tech.
Junior forward Kevin Bookout was a Third-team All-Big 12 pick, while junior guard Terrell Everett earned honorable mention honors.
