RECRUITING: Texas QB coming to OU's spring game?

Stephenville, Texas QB Jevan Snead says he likes the Texas schools, but will take a look at OU.

Jevan Snead is the latest outstanding quarterback out of Stephenville, Texas. We all remember Brandon Stewart, who played at Texas A&M and Kevin Kolb who is now at Houston.

Snead goes into his senior a three-year starter and regarded as one of the top three quarterbacks in Texas.

"It is real nice to be the quarterback here at Stephenville," said Snead. "We have a great football tradition here and it is nice to be in control of the offense. After the 2002 season, we got a new coach and this last year we were a balanced football team. I really like throwing the ball, but our running game sets up a lot of play-action."

Snead can bench 215 pounds, squas 350 and he has a vertical jump of 33-inches. Last season Snead completed 184-of-305 passes for 3,025 yards, 28 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also had 528 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns on the ground. Snead also punts, averaging 42-yards per kick.

Snead went to the Texas and Tarleton State summer camps before his sophomore year. Last summer, he went to the LSU, Houston, Tulane, Texas A&M, TCU and SMU summer camps. The LSU and Houston camps were three-day camps, the rest were one-day.

"I felt I did pretty well at all those camps, "said Snead. "I felt I learned a lot and got better as a player."

At this point, Snead has been offered by TCU, Texas A&M, Houston, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Texas, Auburn, Tulane and Florida.

"Really, at this point, I am just taking it all in and trying to gather as much on each school as I can. I really don't have a top five. I have always rooted for the Texas teams because I live in Texas, but I didn't grow up a fan of a particular school.

"I don't know a lot about Oklahoma, but I hope to go up there for their spring game and get a feel for what they are like. I am honored that they have offered me and I can't wait to see their school. I will be looking at the style of offense, depth chart and how I would fit into their school."

Snead has qualified.
