CORY BRANDON, OL, 6'6, 265, 5.1, CORSICANA, TEXAS:
Cory Brandon is one of those offensive tackle types that the college coaches like in that he has a great frame to put good weight on when he gets to college and he is a legitimate tackle prospect.
In his first year as a starter last season, Brandon established himself as one of the premiere offensive linemen in Texas and one to watch on a national basis.
"I really want to play tight end, but my coaches won't let me," said Brandon with a chuckle. "I think most colleges are recruiting me as an offensive tackle, but I have one school that is recruiting me as a tight end, and that is Oklahoma. I really think they are recruiting me as a tackle. They are telling me that if I want to try tight end they will let me, and that really has me interested in Oklahoma."
Brandon is just getting serious in the weight room and he is just now growing into the position. Brandon can bench 300 pounds, squats 430 and he has posted a 28-inch vertical jump.
Brandon attended a recent junior day at Texas A&M, but admits that he is just now thinking about camps and combines.
"Last year was my first year to start, so I haven't thought much about recruiting," said Brandon. "I am beginning to receive some mail and I have talked to some coaches. I am thinking more about it and trying to decide what I want to do this summer. I hope I can visit Oklahoma this summer, but outside of that I am not sure where I will go."
At this time, Brandon has 18 scholarships that he can choose from, so he has been forced to think about recruiting a little bit.
"I never thought this would happen and that I would have that many schools interested in me," said Brandon. "I like Oklahoma, Texas, and I think Texas A&M right now. They have all offered. Right now Oklahoma and Texas are my top two schools.
"At Oklahoma, they win and win a bunch and that impresses me. They also graduate five offensive linemen next season and they is not afraid to play young players. The man I work for knows the head coach at Texas. He is good friends with Coach Brown. Texas graduates a lot of football players every year and academics are important. I want to be a pilot and I want to find the academics that can help me reach that goal."
Brandon just recently took his SAT and he has yet to receive the score, but his GPA is in good shape.
