RECRUITING: Henry wasted no time committing to OU

Schertz, Texas defensive back James Henry talks about his game and commitment to Oklahoma.

James Henry, ATH, 6'2, 205, 4.5, SCHERTZ (SAMUEL CLEMENS HS), TEXAS:

OUIN: How did this come about? Have you always been a fan of Oklahoma?

JH: "Oklahoma has been my favorite team since I was a freshman in junior high. I just kept following them and when the opportunity became available to sign with them I took it."

OUIN: When did Oklahoma offer you and how long did it take for you to commit to the Sooners?

JH: "They offered me on Monday and I committed to them on Tuesday. I went straight home to talk about it with my grandmother, and when she gave the OK I called OU and told them I wanted to be a Sooner."

OUIN: How would you describe your playing style?

JH: "I am a full-speed all the time type of player. I think speed is my main asset. I have size and power, so I guess I would be a power speed back. I have good size. so I can see the field on both offense and defense."

OUIN: What position do you feel you will play at OU?

JH: "I hope to play some free safety. I will play anywhere to help the team, but I think if I work on my quickness and my speed I could play corner as well."

OUIN: So you think your running back days are over once you get to OU?

JH: "They have a bunch of good running backs that they have recruited in Adrian Peterson and many others, so I don't see much of an opportunity there. I know Oklahoma is always going to recruit a good running back, and I know the coaches are going to put me in the best position where I can help the team."

OUIN: What is your bench press and some of your athletic numbers?

JH: "I bench 265, squat 325 (sophomore numbers) and at the Scout Network Army All-American combine I ran a 4.5 flat. I have been clocked at 4.4 at school. In track, I run the 100M (10.6), 200M (21.6), but I haven't been able to run at all this year because I pulled my hamstring. My first meet is going to be in two weeks."

JH: Who else offered you?

JH: "I had offers from Iowa State, Ohio State and Arizona. Iowa State had me on their list as their No. 1 running back, but everybody else was recruiting me as a defensive back."
