Sooner baseball drops two of three in Waco

Bears take series and drop Sooners to 3-3 in Big 12 play with a 6-2 win Sunday in Waco.

The Oklahoma baseball team fell to 3-3 in Big 12 play after dropping the third game in a three-game series to Baylor, 6-2, Saturday in Waco.

The Sooners, who are now 17-11 overall, dropped two games to the Bears (19-11, 6-3) in the three-game set.

In game one, OU jumped out to a 3-2 lead after three innings, but were held hitless from that point on. The Bears responded with runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth to hand Steven Guerra (3-2) the loss, despite giving up only three earned runs in seven innings.

The Sooners bounced back in game two for a 5-2 win behind the arm of Brad Burns (2-0) and the bat of Freddy Rodriguez, who knocked in two RBI against Baylor ace Mark McCormick.

Burns, a 6-foot-4 freshman from Gracemont, Okla., gave up on unearned run in five innings despite not giving up a hit. John Brownwell pitched two scoreless innings in relief to pick up his second save of the season.

Will Savage (3-3) started on the mound for the Sooners in game three and looked strong through three innings, but then gave up two in the fourth and two in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie.

Chuckie Caufield went 2-for-5 with two RBI, but it wasn't enough as the Bears held on for a 6-2 win.

Next up for the Sooners is a three-game series against Kansas next Friday (7 p.m.), Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) in Norman.
