Jamie Talbert and Caton Hill each scored 19 points as No. 3 Oklahoma clinched a tie for the Big 12 regular season title with their 81-47 win over Nebraska Saturday in Norman. The 34-point margin was the Sooners widest ever in a Big 12 conference game.
With three games remaining in the regular season, Oklahoma needs just one win or a Kansas State loss the rest of the way to clinch the title outright.
With the win, Oklahoma also pushed their current winning streak to eight games and improved to 11-0 at the Lloyd Noble Center this season, and have won 20 in a row at the LNC over the last two seasons.
Leading by just one point with 6:12 to go in the first half, Oklahoma pulled away from the Huskers holding them scoreless for the rest of the half while using an 11-0 run to take a 36-24 halftime lead.
Oklahoma then added three consecutive baskets to begin the second half before the Huskers finally ended their eight minute scoring drought, but the rout was on.
The Sooners went on to outscore the Huskers 45-23 in the second half.
"The second half was much better than the first," said Oklahoma Head Coach Sherri Coale.
"Offensively, in the first half, we played well but we weren't as aggressive on defense as we should have been. At the start, we let them do what they wanted. They had some uncontested 3's and that didn't look like us. In the second half, we were good all around."
"Oklahoma is a great defensive team, they proved that at the end of the first half. We were very much in the game until they went on a big run to end the half," said Nebraska Head Coach Paul Sanderford.
"After that we looked tired. We struggled quite a bit, give them credit for that, they played like a top five team against us."
Senior guard Stacey Dales reached a milestone today going with her 700th assist. Dales dished out eight assists today and currently stands at 706 for her career. The senior also added 14 points.
Alexa Johnson led Nebraska with 14 points.
The Sooners will now set their sights for Austin, Texas, where they will try to clinch sole possession of the Big 12 title when they play Texas Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
