Hoops Recruiting Update

See inside for the lastest on the visits of Brandon Rush and Mario Taybron (pictured right).

Brandon Rush, a 6-foot-6 gaurd from Mt. Zion Academy in North Carolina, and point guard Mario Taybron, from Eastern Oklahoma Junior College, have concluded their visits at OU this weekend.

By all accounts, the visits went well, but the Sooners did not pick up any commitments. Howeiver, they remain in contention for both players.

Rush warmed up to his visit as it went on and in the end really enjoyed himself, according to sources close to Rush. Rush had a good time hanging out with the Sooner players and apparently has some great pickup games. Rush will visit Illinois this weekend and either sign with OU or Illinois. OU has a pretty good chance at this point, but Illinois has a great program and they will make it tough on the Sooners.

Whoever signs Rush will still have to deal with the possibility that he will enter in the NBA draft. Rush plans on signing with a college, but still continue to pursue his possibilities with the NBA without an agent. Right now, he is projected no better than a second round pick and some say that he would not get drafted. I think he would get drafted, but not until the second round. In that case, it is in his best interest to go to school for a couple of years.

OU is in a great position with Taybron, but they didn't not offer him on the trip. Kelvin Sampson wants to bring in 6-foot-3 point guard Chris Walker, from Delta College in California, next weekend and see how that goes.

Oklahoma can get Taybron if they want him, but they like Walker better because he is a pure point guard, while Taybron is a combo guard. Taybron was very solid in the pickup games with the Sooner players. I am not sure if he will take a visit to another school this weekend or not.
