Gasso's Sooners awarded NCAA regional

Sooners will face Wichita State in a first round matchup at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Norman.

It's official. The Oklahoma softball team's quest for a sixth-straight trip to the Women's College World will begin in Norman.

On Sunday, Oklahoma was awarded a region as the No. 14 seed in the 64-team tournament. The Sooners will host No. 13 University of Louisiana at Layfayette, No. 25 Oregon and Wichita State in a four-team double-eliminination field Friday through Sunday at the OU Softball Complex in Norman.

The winner of the regional will advance to a super regional site (to be determined) for a best of three-game series for the right to advance to the World Series in Oklahoma City.

The Sooners, who are hosting a regional for the first time since 2002, will play Wichita State at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Game 1 - 5 p.m. - Oregon vs. University of Louisiana at Lafayette
Game 2 - 7:30 p.m. - Oklahoma vs. Wichita State

Game 3 - 1 p.m. - Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2
Game 4 - 3:30 p.m. - Loser of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 2
Game 5 - 6 p.m. - Winner of Game 4 vs. Loser of Game 3

Game 6 - 1 p.m. - Winner of Game 3 vs. Winner of Game 5
Game 7 - 3:30 p.m. - If necessary game (only necessary if winner of Game 5 defeats winner of Game 3 at 1 p.m.)
