Sooners push streak to six with win over Tech

Three pitchers combine to shut down Texas Tech in Oklahoma's 3-1 win.

Pitching and timely hitting paid off for Oklahoma as they pushed their winning streak to six games with a 3-1 win over Texas Tech Saturday in Norman.

Garrett Patterson, John Brownell and Will Savage combined to shut down Tech giving up just three hits and one run, while junior first baseman Kevin Smith went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.

Left fielder Aaron Ivey's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth broke a 1-1 tie and gave OU the lead for good.

Patterson, who improved to 6-2 on the season, gave up just one run in 5.2 innings, while Brownell and Savage held the Red Raiders hitless over the last 3.1 innings.

The Sooners and Red Raiders will meet again at 1 p.m. Sunday at L. Dale Mitchell Park for the series finale. Freshman righthander Brad Burns (2-1, 3.88 era) is scheduled to take the hill for Oklahoma.
