RECRUITING: Louisiana RB has ties to Oklahoma

Alexandria, La. running back Chris Brown update.

In talking with recent OU signee Nic Harris, the new Sooner pointed out to me that there was a junior on his high school team that was as good, if not better, than him named Chris Brown. And considering how good Nic Harris is, I have to believe that Brown is pretty good.

Brown jumped into the Alexandria starting lineup at running back his freshman year rushing for 667 yards in half a season in district action. As a sophomore, he exploded onto the Louisiana prep scene with 1,791 yards and 24 touchdowns, and then last year he was even better with 1,956 and 25 touchdowns.

"I just prepare myself for every game to be as prepared as I possibly can," said Brown. "I try to watch Adrian Peterson and Reggie Bush and be balanced like them. From Adrian Peterson, I take his power and strength, and he has great lean. Reggie Bush always has good power, but he has great speed and good hands. Adrian is fast as well so both are complete running backs, but they have different styles."

Brown runs mainly out of the I-formation, but he also works out of a one-back set and sometimes in the shotgun. Brown can bench 285 pounds, squats 450 and he has a 33-inch vertical jump. Brown also runs the mile relay (anchor/49.0), 300 high hurdles (37.9), 110 meter high hurdles (14.2) in track. Brown also won state in the 300 meter hurdles and set a composite record among all the classes.

Brown has been to a camp in Ft. Worth back in April. He also went to the LSU junior day, but had to leave halfway through it to run in a track meet.

Brown has been offered by Oklahoma, Arkansas, TCU, Southern Miss, Mississippi State and Alabama.

"I don't have a leader. I am just taking recruiting as it goes," said Brown. "I am trying to work down to a top three or something like that. I hope to do by the time the season starts."

What are his thoughts on Oklahoma?

"I have good thoughts on Oklahoma," said Brown. "They have a real good school and I have a best friend (Nic Harris) who is going to school there. If I had to name a top three right now OU would definitely be in it. I am planning on taking an official visit to OU. I hope to get up to OU during June when they have their summer camps."

Brown is close to qualifying.
