RECRUITING: Jenks star impresses at OU camp

See inside for mews and notes from the last day of Oklahoma's first summer football camp session.

The Sooners concluded their first big summer camp on Monday, and around 400 athletes participated.

On Monday, it was two offensive linemen who stood out and drew the attention of several OU coaches. OL Matt Hulbert (6'7, 275, 5.7) of Ankeny, Iowa and Chase Beeler (6'4, 265, 5.1) of Jenks, Okla. Hulbert worked at tackle while Beeler worked at center and guard. In one-on-one drills, the OTs are always at a disadvantage and Hulbert struggled against the defensive ends.

Beeler may have earned another look from the Sooners. He showed that he could play center or guard, and that is something that OL Coach Kevin Wilson likes. He also showed that he was a good technician, coachable and tough. He is not the biggest guy as he he looks more like 6-2 than 6-4, but he is 265 pounds and a tough guy in the trenches.

Both Beeler and Hulbert are still on the Sooner recruiting board, but Beeler made the biggest move.

The 10 players from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas all said they had a great time, including DeMarco Murray. Coach David White likes the OU camp and program, and he says the Sooners are going to have a shot to sign Murray.
