RECRUITING: Florida OL to visit Norman?

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. offensive lineman Marcus Gilbert talks about his game and interest in Oklahoma.

Marcus Gilbert joins Sam Young and Dan Wegner one of the great offensive linemen from Aquinas High School in Florida.

"We have played together a long time, so we don't think about how good or high we are ranked nationally," said Gilbert. "We dominate the line of scrimmage pretty well. The majority of the time we like to run the ball. I play offensive and defensive tackle, so I go both ways. I am the only offensive linemen that does that."

Gilbert finished with 20 plus tackles and six sacks on defense in four games, but an injury pushed him to just the offensive side of the ball.

He can bench 365 pounds and tarts in hoops, averaging 12 points per game. Gilbert throws the shot (56) and discus (136) in track.

Gilbert has recently been to a to a combine in Miami last year and he went to the Perfect Competition Combine in Davey, Fla. Gilbert also went to Junior Day at Miami and a spring practice at Florida.

"Most of them are offering me as an offensive lineman, but a few of them have offered me for defense," said Gilbert, who has been offered by over 20 different colleges. "I like defense better, but I also like offense. I am being recruited by more people on offense.

"I haven't narrowed down my choices at this point. My dad and I are going to sit down and discuss the schools and try to narrow down my choices this weekend. I am considering Miami, LSU, Oklahoma, North Carolina State, North Carolina, and maybe Michigan."

What is it about Oklahoma that he likes at this point?

"I like their tradition and their coaching staff," said Gilbert. "I like their offensive line coach (Kevin Wilson) and the opportunity that I would have at Oklahoma. I am pretty sure I am going to visit Oklahoma. I have some great schools that I am looking at in Florida, but I am not just interested in staying in-state. I will go to the best school that fits me."

Gilbert just took his ACT test recently, but he has his GPA in order.
