RECRUITING: Atlanta LB planning visit

OU's Butkus tradition has Atlanta, Ga. linebacker Morrice Richardson's attention.

Morrice Richardson is one of those linebackers that takes your breath away when you watch him in action on film. Richardson has been a starter since his freshman season at Westlake, and during his career Richardson has played quarterback, wide receiver, tight end, linebacker, defensive end, offensive tackle and defensive tackle.

"It has been fun to play all those positions," said Richardson. "I was a horrible quarterback and I couldn't quite grasp the concept of catching, so they had to moved me to defense. I think I am equally good at both linebacker and defensive end, but most colleges are recruiting me to play linebacker."

Last season, Richardson played defensive end and some linebacker finishing with at least 85 tackles and six sacks.

Richardson can bench 315 pounds, squats 475 and he has posted a 34-inch vertical jump. He also wrestles at 215 pounds and qualified for the state tournament his sophomore year.

Richardson went to camp at Auburn, Alabama and Georgia, as well as the Scout combine at Auburn University. Richardson went to Georgia Tech and Georgia's senior day and attended a spring practice at Georgia Tech. In two weeks, Richardson plans to take an unofficial visit to Oklahoma.

Richardson has been offered by 20 schools at this point, but he has developed some opinions on some of his favorite schools.

"It is hard to get down to a top five because I like all the schools. All of them are noted programs," said Richardson. "You can't go wrong with all with them, but the schools that I feel the most comfortable with are the schools where I can fit into their scheme.

"Right now I am wide open, but off the top of my head I like Virginia Tech, Florida State, Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Auburn, Alabama and Tennessee."

What is it he specifically likes about the Sooners?

"They are a powerhouse," said Richardson. "They have seven National Championships, so what else can you say? I like Coach (Brent) Venables and Coach (Cale Gundy), they are great guys. Coach Venables has coached a lot of guys who have won Butkus Awards."

Richardson has qualified.
