Planning to get away the weekend after Thanksgiving thinking the Sooners were off? Change your plans.
The Big 12 conference announced Tuesday that the 2005 Bedlam football game between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will be moved from Saturday, Nov. 5 to Saturday, Nov. 26.
The move, which gives the Sooners an open date after their Oct. 29 game at Nebraska and a week before a Nov. 12 showdown with Texas A&M in Norman, is part of an agreement by the conference schools to play four games during the weekend after Thanksgiving in an eight-year span.
"The University of Oklahoma has participated in the past and now, along with other league institutions, we are being selected again," said OU Athletics Director Joe Castiglione in a press release on SoonerSports.com. "It remains our preference to leave that weekend open in advance of the league championship game and in observance of the holiday period for student-athletes, campus community and fans.
"At the same time we have to embrace our responsibility as a conference member, and the television exposure benefits our program in a myriad of ways not the least of which is allowing countless fans across the country to follow the Sooners."
If there is one positive from the move, it's that the game will not start before noon. ABC will televise the game at either 2:30 p.m. or 7 p.m.
