RECRUITING: Florida OL to visit Norman?

Daytona Beach, Fla. offensive lineman Cruz Barrett talks about his game and interest in Oklahoma.

Cruz Barrett is like a cruise missile coming off the ball and exploding into a defender. Very few offensive linemen in the country have the kind of first step that Barrett has.

Regarded as one of the top offensive tackle in the country, Barrett is athletic enough to also get a look on defense.

"I am a big guy so I use my size to my advantage," said Barrett. "I take a defensive mentality to the offensive line. I feel that I have just as much right to dominate in the offensive line as somebody does in the defensive line."

Barrett broke into the starting line-up a year ago and had a fantastic year playing left tackle, grading out close to 90 percent. Barrett, who will switch to right tackle next season, can bench 325 pounds, squat 425 and recently posted a 28-inch vertical jump.

Last year, Barrett attended the Miami and Florida State summer camps, and this year he will return to Florida State. Barrett is a starter in hoops averaging eight points and 10 rebounds per game.

Barrett has been offered by seven schools at this point including Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, West Virginia, LSU, North Carolina and Oklahoma.

"I am still very open-minded to all the schools until I can take my visits," said Barrett. "I am not sure who I am going to visit, but I guess it is safe to say that I will visit Florida State and Miami.

"Oklahoma is a good team and I like them a lot. I will probably take a visit to Oklahoma along with Florida State and Miami, I would say that I have a good interest in Oklahoma as well."

Barrett has his GPA, but he has yet to take the ACT or SAT.
