How good is the Big 12 conference in womenís basketball? Just watch some Womenís NCAA Tournament action this weekend and you will get your answer.
A showcase game for the conference will go down Saturday night in Boise, Idaho, between Oklahoma and the Lady Red Raiders of Texas Tech.
Oklahoma has been rolling for some time now. Since an overtime loss to Texas in Austin, the Sooners have not been challenged. They drummed everyone of their three opponents in the Big 12Tournament, and then coasted to two easy victories in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament at Lloyd Noble. Led by their triumvirate of Stacey Dales, LaNeisha Caufield and Caton Hill, Oklahoma has yet to have a reason to worry. Texas Tech gives the Sooners plenty of things to worry about. Party time is over, time to get down
Tech lost to Oklahoma twice this year: 80-68 in Lubbock and 75-56 in Norman. While it looks like OU should have no trouble disposing of Tech, let it be known that their arsenal is far from bare. Tech is full of mad bombers that, when on, can make life miserable for the best of teams.
Jia Perkins, a 5-8 sophomore guard that averages nearly 17 a game, is mixed with Amber Tarr to form a lethal 3-point tandem. It is paramount that Oklahoma gets these two into a funk from behind the arc, much like they did in Norman a couple of weeks ago.
All Oklahoma needs to win is a decent showing from the Triumvirate. Sixty
points from the 3-headed monster is more than plenty when you consider OUís defensive tenacity. Texas Tech is a heck of a ballclub, one that will only get better with age, but Oklahoma will roll into the Elite 8 on Monday with their eyes firmly set on San Antonio and the Final Four.
