RECRUITING: Florida DT could visit Norman

Samford, Fla. defensive tackle Budd Thacker Update.

Budd Thacker, DT, 6'3, 260, 4.8, SAMFORD (SEMINOLE HS), FLORIDA:

Budd Thacker
plays with a fast motor and great quickness and coaches like his talents on both sides of the ball. Thacker is a four-year starter at DT and OT where he has dominated on both sides of the ball.

"I like defensive tackle all the way," said Thacker. "I like doing the hitting instead of getting hit. I have been going both ways so long that it is not hard to play both positions, but I would rather play on defense — that is for sure."

Thacker finished last season with tons of honors, and you can read all about him at

"I don't keep up with those numbers because football is a team sport," said Thacker. "I don't care about individual stuff, all I care about is winning. My mom put together the website and I have had a lot of fun with it."

Thacker can bench 420 pounds, squats 505 andhas posted a vertical jump of 29 inches. This summer, Thacker has been to the Down and Dirty lineman camp in Santa Fe University in Tampa Bay and to a camp at Miami. Thacker is also on the powerlifting team and admits that he loves working in the weight room.

Thus far, Thacker has been offered by Toledo, West Virginia, Maryland, Louisville, Wake Forrest, UCF, UConn and Kentucky.

"A lot of schools say they are going to offer me, so I expect to get a lot more offers when my season starts," said Thacker. "Both Florida State and Oklahoma say they are going to offer me after they see me play. I would like to take a visit to Oklahoma, I like them pretty well.

"I have talked to Coach (Jackie) Shipp about it and he says he is going to offer me, but he wants to see me play in person first. I really don't have any idea where I want to go, so I will just wait until my season is over and then go from there."

Thacker has qualified and is an excellent student.
