RECRUITING: OU still in the hunt for Maryland OL

Lackey, Md. offensive lineman J.B. Walton talks about his top 8 and interest in Oklahoma.

J.B. Walton, OL, 6-3, 270, 5.1, LACKEY (INDIAN HEAD HS), MARYLAND:

JH: How is your summer going, and when do your practices start?

JB: "We have two more weeks before practices start. We have another week and a half of off-season workouts and then the following Monday practice starts. I have had a great summer of workouts and I am anxious to get started. I have been running and I am in great shape. I think our team is going to be real good this year. I think we have a great chance to win a state championship."

JH: Have you been to any camps recently or taken any unofficial visits?

JB: "I went to camps at Maryland and to a camp at Virginia Tech. Then I took an unofficial visit to Penn State. They didn't really expect me down there because I kind of just showed up, but the visit went well."

JH: Are you close to making a decision?

JB: "No, I am not close to making a decision yet."

JH: What schools are you still considering?

JB: "I would say Tennessee, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Penn State, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Ohio State."

JH: Do you have a favorite at this time?

JB: "No, I don't have a favorite. Things are still pretty much up in the air. Those are the schools I will probably choose from."

JH: What are your thoughts on Oklahoma?

JB: "Oklahoma is a school that I have a great interest in, and have for some time. They put out probably the best offensive line in the country right now and they had three players sign with the pros and two All-American's last year.

"I have talked to Coach (Kevin) Wilson a couple of times and he text messages me. I enjoy talking to him and I have told him to just be straight up with me and tell me the truth, and I feel he does that.

"If or when I take an official visit there I want to see what Oklahoma has to offer academically, and I want to see what kind of atmosphere surrounds the football team and the college. I just want to get a feel for what it is like to be a student/athlete there.

"I want to talk to some of the players and see what they say about it. I am sure I will hear good things, but I want to see for myself what it is like at OU."

JH: Have you set up any official visits at this time?

JB: "No, I have not set any official visits."
