RECRUITING: Florida tight end set to visit Norman

Tampa, Fla. tight end Trent Pupello names a favorite and talks about his interest in Oklahoma.

Trent Pupello lives in St. Petersburg, but is part of a magnet program and goes to school at Tampa Jefferson. Which is a good thing for the folks in Tampa, as Trent continues to work his way up the recruiting charts the more coaches and media see him.

"People tell me all the time I am more of a traditional tight end," said Pupello. "I am not sure what that means, but I get that a lot. I am a good blocker at the line of scrimmage, but I can catch the ball as well. I also hear that I am a throwback tight end. I started out in little league playing in the offensive line, and in my ninth grade year I actually played offensive tackle. My sophomore year, I started at offensive tackle. It wasn't until I transferred to Jefferson last year that I moved to tight end. I think playing in the offensive line has helped me with my blocking."

Pupello is not a stat guy and he doesn't care what his numbers were last year, but he can bench 225 pounds 25 times and he squats 405 12 times. He has also posted a 28-inch vertical jump.

Pupello went to Miami three times for camps with one being a prospect camp. He also went to Florida State.

Pupello has been offered by Oklahoma, Florida State, LSU, Ole Miss, USF, Nebraska, Kansas, San Diego State and several others.

"My favorite right now is FSU, but I haven't really narrowed it down yet," said Pupello. "I am planning on visiting Oklahoma, Nebraska, LSU, Florida State and my fifth spot is open. I have been to Ole Miss, so I don't know if I will go back there.

"I went to a one-day camp at Florida State and I really liked it there. I like the atmosphere and the tight end coach. It was pretty weird, because my dad went to Florida (Joe) where he played offensive guard for four years."

What are Pupello's thoughts on OU?

"I am real interested in Oklahoma. They are one of the schools that I am going to visit," said Pupello. "I really don't know a lot about them so I need to visit there to find out what they are all about. I really don't follow football all that much, I just play it. I really don't follow teams are anything like that."

Trent has qualified academically.
