RECRUITING: Sooners in Tampa OL's top three

Tampa, Fla. Jim Barrie talks about his summer trip to Norman and where the Sooners stand on his list.

Jim Barrie, OL, 6-5, 305, TAMPA (BEREKLEY PREP), FLORIDA:

JH: I haven't had a chance to talk to you since you took your unofficial visit to OU in July. What did you think of that visit?

JB: "I loved everything about the visit. I got to meet Coach (Bob) Stoops and I got to hang out with Coach (Kevin) Wilson most of the day. I got to meet a bunch of the players and everybody that we met were a great bunch of people. I wouldn't mind playing next to those types of guys. That would be great."

JH: What players did you get a chance to meet on your visit?

JB: "I met Duke Robinson and Branndon Braxton. All the freshmen were working out and I came across probably all of them. I got to see Adrian Peterson and he was jumping onto a four-inch platform with two 45-pound weights. That was incredibly impressive."

JH: Did you get a chance to see much of the campus or the town?

JB: "The setup there is really nice. Everything is right there. The stadium is right next to the school and the players don't have to go far to work out. School is just a block away is really convenient for the players."

JH: Your family took the visit with your, so how did they like it?

JB: "They liked it a lot too. They loved it. They were really impressed with Coach Stoops. They got to talk to him for about 30 minutes."

JH: What is the latest in recruiting?

JB: "Right now I am planning my visits. I am going to take a couple during the season, but I am not sure which ones."

JH: Do you have a top five or a top three at this time?

JB: "Right now it is Oklahoma, Florida State and Michigan. I plan on taking official visits to all three schools. I am still considering a lot of people for the remaining two visits."

JH: What do you like about Florida State and Michigan?

JB: "The same thing — I really felt comfortable with the coaching staffs at both schools. I flew to Michigan and then to Oklahoma. All three programs are powerhouse programs and all three have great traditions. At Michigan, you also get great academics. And with Florida State, it is close to home. My sister Kristen goes to Florida State."

JH: You have some great schools you are looking at and all of them are big-time football programs. What are key things that you are looking for in a school?

JB: "The main thing we look at is how comfortable I am with the program and how I will fit into the system. I am just going to take my time figuring that out because that is the key thing."

JH: How are workouts going?

JB: "At the beginning of August we sleep over at school for a week and through three-a-days. We have special teams at 5:30 in the morning, and then we go to defense a little bit later. Then we had offense in the evening. We did so well on special teams that we got to sleep in a couple of days. We had our first scrimmage last week and that game was called at halftime because we were leading 50-12. Next we fly to Nashville, Tenn. to play Donaldson Christian Academy — the state champs of Tennessee. That game is going to be so much fun to play.
