RECRUITING: Georgia LB see opportunity after visit

Rome, Ga. linebacker Toryan Smith talks about his visit to Norman.

Toryan Smith, LB, 6-0, 241, ROME, GEORGIA:

JH: What did you think about your visit to OU this weekend?

TS: "My visit went well. I know they lost the game and I was shocked about that, and so were they. I know they don't lose very often, but you know they handled it well. The guys are good guys and they treated me well even though they lost the game."

JH: What did you think about the game atmosphere, the facilities and their academics?

TS: "It was a good game because they always sell out the stadium. They have a great campus and their facilities are second to none. I love how they weight train, and I think they have the best facilities that I have seen. OU does a great job with their academics."

JH: Did you watch the middle linebacker position or the linebackers during the game and did you find out more about the depth chart?

TS: "I learned a little something about the depth chart. I know they are going to bring in three more linebackers and they want to be three-deep and have nine linebackers on scholarship. By coming in next fall, I would be second team just because of numbers. Coach (Brent) Venables told me how I would fit in as a freshman and how I could contribute as a freshman. I was real impressed with Coach Venables."

JH: Do you feel you are a middle linebacker in Oklahoma's defensive scheme?

TS: "I watched the middle linebacker a lot. I also sat down with Coach Venables and he showed me that the middle backer and the WILL backer are just about the same. There is not a lot of difference between them. He told me that Teddy Lehman started out as a middle linebacker and moved over to the WILL. Right now they will probably start me out as a middle backer."

JH: Now that you have visited Oklahoma what are your thoughts about eventually signing with OU?

TS: "I didn't come down here to commit because I have a few more visits to take. I think I will be ready to make my decision sometime in December. I sat down with Coach Stoops and Coach Venables, and Oklahoma has a real good chance to sign me. Oklahoma made a real good impression on me and they have a good chance to sign me.

"I hung out with Duke Robinson and he loves it at OU. We played against each other in Georgia. I had a great time. Oklahoma is going to be in my final two for sure, and I wouldn't be surprised if I don't sign with them."

JH: What are the schools that you are considering?

TS: "Oklahoma, Florida, Notre Dame, Michigan and Georgia."

JH: When is your next visit?

TS: "I go to Notre Dame October 15th.
