Recruiting: RB still high on OU despite slow start

Las Vegas, Nev. running back DeMarco Murray talks about his season and Oklahoma's slow start.

DeMarco Murray, RB, 6-1, 185, 4.05, LAS VEGAS (BISHOP GORMAN HS), NEVEDA:

JH: How is your season going at this point?

DM: "We are 2-1 right now. We lost our season opener to another top team and since then we have played pretty well."

JH: How are you playing thus far this season?

DM: "So far I am playing pretty well. I have five touchdowns this season, and I have been doing pretty well on the receiving end and rushing the football."

JH: Many times stats don't tell the whole story how a running back is playing, so do you feel you are running well within the offense?

DM: "I think I have been doing a pretty good job. Our offensive line has only two starters returning so they have been getting better each day. I think I have improved going North and South as our season has progressed, and I am doing a good job of making people miss."

JH: How are you handling recruiting now that the coaches are calling you again?

DM: "I have been getting a lot of phone calls every day. I have just been trying to space them out so that I can enjoy my senior year. I don't take all my calls, I just take the ones that I really want to. But every night I have homework to take care of when I get home. I just try to manage my time and do the best I can with my time."

JH: What do you think of Oklahoma's season thus far?

DM: "I think Oklahoma is actually doing a good job. I know they have lost two games and that is a big deal to a lot of people, but in the grand scope of football it is not. They still have a lot to play for and they just have to keep working and they will turn it around."

JH: Oklahoma has added an option package to their offense so now they have a power game and option game in their running attack. How does what OU does now fit your running style?

DM: "Yes, that fits my style a lot. I talk to Coach Stoops and Coach Gundy a lot and they tell me what they are running and how I can fit into that offense. I think they are doing a great job with their offense. I could fit into that offense very well."

JH: How is your recruiting stacking up at this time?

DM: "Oklahoma is still very much in there along with USC and Miami. I am also beginning to think about Penn State and South Carolina."

JH: Do you have a leader at this point?

DM: "Right now I think everybody is on the same page. I haven't set up my visits yet and I am going to do that soon. I want to take those visits and see where everybody stands."
