Gerald McCoy, DT, 6-4, 285, 5.0, OKLAHOMA CITY (SOUTHEAST HS), OKLAHOMA:
JH: What happened on your injury in the first game?
GM: "I just made a tackle wrong during that first game and I came up with a stinger. It hurt badly and they didn't want me to move at first. I went to the hospital and stayed there until early in the morning. They gave me a clean bill of health and I have not missed a game since."
JH: How is your season going?
GM: "Our season is going well. We are 4-1. At this point I have 46 tackles, 13 sacks, two safeties and a touchdown off of a fumble. I have caused 10 fumbles and I have recovered five, and that is with three guys always trying to block me. On one play, they have five blocking me and I was so mad on that play because we didn't not get the sack. They got the pass off and I couldn't believe it, because I looked down and five guys were blocking me."
JH: You aren't going to have any problem in getting more than 20 sacks then are you?
GM: "No sir. The Daily Oklahoman predicted that I would only have 10 sacks the whole season. and I had 10 sacks in four games. It is not about skills, it is about hard work. I worked hard this offseason and I tried to get better. Sure, people know about me and when they step on the field I am easy to see. I am 6-foot-5, 290 pounds. I am easy to pick up. But they can't outwork me and they are not going to be able to stop me."
JH: What did you think of the OU-Kansas State game?
GM: "It was cool. It was a great atmosphere as always. They are starting to gel as a team and that something that I am happy about. Rhett Bomar is beginning to play well and it was good to see Paul Thompson catch a pass."
JH: Have you set a visit schedule?
GM: "I am visiting Notre Dame on the 15th and Miami on the 22nd. Then I am going to USC on November the 5th, and on the 26th I am going to Virginia Tech. I have one last visit that I haven't set up yet."
JH: Have you started to narrow down your choices at all?
GM: "I am still considering everybody. It is crazy with people calling from everywhere. I am going to take a couple of visits, but I am more concerned about my season right now."
JH: What are your thoughts on Oklahoma?
GM: "Nothing has changed about my thoughts about Oklahoma. The Sooners are still going to be the Sooners and they are going to be high on my list. They have a lot of young talent right now on their football team and that young talent is beginning to gel. It is not going to be to long before the Sooners are playing for championships again."
