The Oklahoma football team went through spring practice No. 14 Thursday and have officially concluded its preparations for the annual Red/White Spring Game, which kicks off Saturday at 1 p.m., in Memorial Stadium.
The Sooners worked out in shorts, shoulder pads and helmets, and went through a mental practice going through all assignments with the offense and defense, including special teams.
Oklahoma Head Coach Bob Stoops said that he was very pleased with the Sooners workout and the progress they made with assignments on both sides of the ball.
It's also alumni weekend in Norman and several of the former varsity members watched as the Sooners went through practice, which included very little contact.
Former Sooners Bob Womack, Eddie Lancaster, Jim Culbreath, Ryan Allen, Roger Steffan, Steve Collins, Tink Collins and Jim Riley among others, watched the Sooners go through their paces.
Jason White had a good day throwing the football finding his favorite target Trent Smith against the Sooner secondary on several occasions during skelly drills. Smith was outstanding today, showing tremendous hands and the confidence to catch the ball in a crowd.
Brent Rawls once again demonstrated tremendous precision hitting receivers in tight coverage.
Brandon Jones had an outstanding practice catching screens and the ball in the flat and then making big runs after the catch. Jones will be the Sooner baseball teams' starting centerfielder when they travel to ORU Friday night.
Brent Ferguson had a better day punting the football, but once again was knocked down twice trying to beat the Sooner punt rush team. Coach Stoops continues to say that he is pleased with Ferguson and feels he will be fine next season.
Deep snapper Dan Cody once again missed practice with a pulled groin, leaving Kory Klein, who struggled on many snaps, to handle the snapping duties.
