Hoops Recruiting: Center still interested

Texas center Jeremy Mayfield talks about his interest in OU and upcoming visits.

Jeremy Mayfield, C, 6-10, Gulf Shores Academy, Texas:

I had chance to talk with Jeremy Mayfield tonight, who was on put on a three-way connection with his AAU coach — Craig Robert — who helped at times filling in the blanks for Jeremy.

JH: How hectic has recruiting been for you considering we are getting close to the early signing period?

JM: "It really hasn't been that bad for me until lately. (Coach Robert) It is getting bad because he goes to South Florida this weekend, then Texas the following the weekend and then Miami in the last weekend in the month. Somewhere in between all of that, he is going to try to squeeze off an unofficial to Texas A&M as well. So, his life is right in the middle of getting crazy."

JH: How did you like your visit last month to OU?

JM: "It was real fun. They showed me a lot of love. I hung out with the players and they were all cool. The coaches were cool too."

JH: Since that visit, have you been thinking about OU at all?

JM: "Oh yes sir, yes sir. I like OU a great deal."

JH: How would you break down your recruiting at this point among the top four or five schools you are considering?

JM: "Everybody is pretty much the same. I need to wait until I take my visits. I have some great schools to choose from and I really want to make my decision until I take my visits."

JH: What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about Oklahoma?

JM: "That I could go in there and get some work done and I could make it onto the next level."

JH: Do you see some real opportunities at OU?

JM: "Oh, yes sir!"

JH: How about the University of Texas?

JM: "It is pretty much the same thing."

JH: How about South Florida and Texas?

Coach Robert: "We haven't talked about any of the other schools yet. We just know he is going to take his visits."

JH: Do all five schools have a legitimate shot at signing Jeremy at this time?

Coach Robert: "Those are the four schools with Oklahoma, Texas, South Florida and Miami that Jeremy believes he can step into immediately and contribute heavily. Texas A&M has a few other commitments fromguys who are similar to Jeremy. The opportunity to play there is available, but it is going to be a fight, and a big fight at that.

"He likes Oklahoma because of the proximity. It is only two hours away form home. Oklahoma is a Big 12 program and winning environment, and going to Oklahoma would give him a chance to make the NCAA Tournament every year."
