Recruiting: OU still in the mix for Okla. DE?

Muskogee, Okla. defensive end Derek Burton talks about his season and five favorites.

Derek Burton, DE, 6-2, 245, 5.0, MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA:

JH: How is your season going?

DB: "We are 4-3. I guess I am playing pretty well. I have to go both ways and that has been pretty tough. I play defensive end, offensive guard and tight end. I have nine sacks on the year, so I guess that is pretty good."

JH: Have you been to any college games lately?

DB: "I have been to a Tulsa game this year. I went to the Tulsa/Memphis game. It was a good game and Tulsa pulled the game out in the end."

JH: How is recruiting going?

DB: "It is still going well. I get a few calls from coaches and some letters, but it is nothing overwhelming. Everything is going pretty well."

JH: Have you set any visits?

DB: "I haven't set any visits yet, but I plan on taking a trip to Tennessee at the end of December or early January."

JH: What schools are you still considering?

DB: "I haven't cut anybody out yet. I have the three schools in-state, then Tennessee and Texas Tech."

JH: Do you have a favorite at this time?

DB: "I don't know enough about any of the schools to have a favorite."

JH: What are your thoughts on Oklahoma?

DB: "They are having some problems this year, but that won't last long. Oklahoma is going to bounce back, and that is one of the things I like about them. They always have the ability to bounce back. Oklahoma is going to be playing for championships, or they are always going to be playing for something at the end of the year."

JH: What are the key things that are going to be important in your recruiting?

DB: "I would have to say the coaching staff and how they treat their players. I want to see a practice or a couple of practices and see how the coaches treat and talk to their players. Then I just want to see how I will fit in with that program and how the coaches are going to deal with me."
