Sampson, Sooners begin season at No. 6

Sooners debut at No. 6 in the ESPN/USA Today Preseason Coaches Top 25 Poll.

Let the expectations begin.

Kelvin Sampson's Oklahoma basketball team may still be 21 days from officially tipping off the 2005-06 season, but they've already been dubbed a Top 10 team.

Sampson's Sooners will beging the season ranked No. 6 in the preaseason USA Today/ESPN Coach Top 25 Poll released on Friday.

The Sooners, who begin exhibition play next Saturday and tip-off the regular season on Nov. 19 against Samford, are ranked behind Duke, Connecticut, Texas, Villanova and Michigan State.

The ranking is the second-highest for the Sooners in a preseason coaches poll during Sampson's tenure in Norman. Oklahoma was ranked No. 3 to begin the 2002-03 season.
