Recruiting: DT McCoy impressed with USC

Oklahoma City defensive tackle Gerald McCoy talks about his visit to USC.

Gerald McCoy, DT, 6-4, 285, 5.0, OKLAHOMA CITY (SOUTHEAST HS), OKLAHOMA:

JH: I know you are real disappointed that you didn't make the playoffs?

GM: "I am real disappointed because I am part of 17 seniors on this team and we really wanted to get into the playoffs. So, tonight I started my off-season program and I am already working on my next step, which will be college."

JH: What consists of your off-season program?

GM: "I am just lifting and running a lot. I lift for an hour to two hours and then go out and run. Sometimes I run sprints and sometimes I will run distance."

JH: Tell us about your official trip to USC?

GM: "Man, it was wonderful. Everything moves fast down there. The coaches were fun and cool guys. I really don't have words to describe it, but I can say that it was real fun down there."

JH: Who was your host and what did you do?

GM: "Cedric Allen was my host. We went to a few parties and then he took me back to the hotel."

JH: What are your thoughts on the USC football program?

GM: "They have a great program and they have everything that a great college football program can have. One advantage that USC has right now is that they have a great coaching staff that is having fun coaching and that attitude rubs off on their players. The big thing at USC is for the team to have fun and enjoy themselves, but Coach (Pete) Carroll knows how to get their attention and how to get them focused when he wants it. The team just knows how to do that when they need to. The players are having an enjoyable time playing football at USC."

JH: Now that you have visited USC, how does recruiting shape up for you?

GM: "It doesn't really change anything. If anything, USC's stock went up a little bit. I am still neutral and still weighting my options."

JH: What are your thoughts on Oklahoma at this time?

GM: "OU hasn't fallen off my list. They are still up there. I am just taking visits to other places."

JH: Where are you going to this weekend?

GM: "I am going to be at the OU/ Texas A&M game this weekend."
