RECRUITING: Duncanville DT has impressive list
XAVIER LAWSON-KENNEDY, DT, 6Õ3, 303, 4.88, DUNCANVILLE, TEXAS: Xavier has one of the best names in high school football and that is good because by the end of the year every college football fan and coach in the country is going to know it by heart. Lawson-Kennedy is rated one of the very best defensive tackles in the country and most have him rated in the top ten in Texas. This season will mark the third year that Lawson-Kennedy has started. His sophomore year Lawson-Kennedy started at defensive end, before moving to defensive tackle last season. As a sophomore, Lawson-Kennedy registered 46 solo stops, three sacks, 12 tackles for losses and 17 hurries. Lawson-Kennedy experienced a breakout year last year with 117 tackles, 10 sacks, 67 quarterback pressures and 42 tackles for losses. ÒMy biggest strength is my quickness for my size,Ó said Lawson-Kennedy. ÒMost guys my size arenÕt as quick as I am, especially when you throw in my strength.Ó Lawson-Kennedy can bench 405 pounds, squats 585 and has a 32-inch vertical jump. In powerlifting, Lawson-Kennedy posted a 1480 total. Lawson-Kennedy also throws the shot (61Õ and discus (170.4), and qualified for regionals in both and the district in the discus. Lawson-Kennedy did not attend any football camps last season and he doesnÕt expect to go to any this season. ÒI really donÕt know which schools I like right now,Ó said Lawson-Kennedy. ÒI am looking at schools with a good business-law program. I am staying pretty wide open and right now I donÕt know if I want to stay in state or go out of state. Oklahoma is pretty good and they are one of the teams that I am looking at. In-state I like Texas and Texas A&M. I am also hearing from schools like Nebraska, Ohio State, UCLA, Miami and Florida.Ó Lawson-Kennedy says he will look at the academic program of each university very hard and he will certainly study the graduation rate of each school.
