*Venables staying at Oklahoma*

Oklahoma's defensive coordinator talks with OUInsider.com's James Hale about his decision.

OU Defensive Coordinator Brent Venables has decided that he will not be a a candidate to be the next Head Football Coach at Kansas State and will continue to be the Defensive Coordinator of the Oklahoma Sooners.

"This is just not the right time for me to be a candidate for the head coach job at Kansas State or anywhere at this particular time in my life," Venables by phone just moments ago. "My family and I have been through a lot over the last several weeks and, considering what my wife had kids have gone through we just need stability in our life."

"I enjoy what I am doing and sometimes I have to do what is best for me, or what I think is the best for me. Not what people feel is the best thing for me in terms of moving up the corporate ladder so to speak," Venables continued. "I am not saying I was offerd the job, because I wasn't. But at this time I just don't feel I can even be a candidate for the job. Again, I like what I am doing at OU and what are doing at OU. We have a young team that we feel can become a real good football team. I have my players at linebacker who I am very close to and I enjoy coaching them. My family likes living in Norman and my wife is comfortable there. My wife and family mean so much to me and right now they don't need for me to put them through any kind of instability."

"So, I want to end the speculation concerning me and the Kansas State head coaching job," Venables continued. "Again, I was never offered the job. At this time in my life I don't feel I can be a candidate for the job. Right now I need to get back to Oklahoma and prepared for a bowl game. I need to get on the road recruiting and I need to get back to Norman with the football team that I love coaching."
