Brown ready to learn from Peterson

Alexandria, La. running back Chris Brown talks about his running style, why he chose the Sooners and his expectations for next season playing behind Adrian Peterson.

Chris Brown, RB, 5-10.5, 195, 4.5, ALEXANDRIA (SENIOR HS), LOUISIANA:

JH: Congratulations on your commitment to OU. Why did you commit to the Sooners last night?

CB: "It was just that I felt more comfortable at Oklahoma than anywhere else. I visited a lot of schools and just decided that I didn't need to take any more visits, because I knew after taking those visits where I wanted to go. I wanted to wait until Coach (Cale) Gundy got here to tell him. When I told my mom of my decision she wanted me to wait until Coach Gundy got here so she could meet him. I had told her all about Coach Gundy and how great of a guy he was, and she just wanted to see for herself. Once she met him I was able to tell him the news."

JH: Was he expecting your decision this soon?

CB: "He was kind of surprised. I don't think he had a real idea. He was always telling me that he was getting a date set to get Coach (Bob) Stoops down here and I think he thought that maybe I would do it then. I had my mind made up and I didn't see any reason to wait."

JH: You say you felt comfortable at OU, so was that the sole reason why you picked Oklahoma over Mississippi State and Arkansas?

CB: "When I went to all those schools I tried to picture myself at those schools, and I just felt that I belonged at Oklahoma. I prayed about it and everything came back Oklahoma. The fact that Nic (Harris/former high school teammate at Alexandria) was there was a plus and when I was there I got treated like I was already a teammate. I feel like I have been a part of the team for a couple of months now."

JH: We know you rushed for 1,700 yards and 22 touchdowns, but how would you describe your running style?

CB: "I would say that I like to get outside as much as possible, but I am a good runner inside the tackles. I am the type of running back that you can move around. I run best out of the I-formation, but we also run the gun just like Oklahoma does. I run over people when I have too, but I have moves that I can make. I would say that I glide when I run."

JH: What are your goals your first season at OU?

CB: "I just want to come in and help my team in any way that I can. I am not looking for the spotlight or anything. I am just looking to help Oklahoma win as many football games as they can next year. I know that AD is there for another year and I want to learn as much as I can from him and become the best running back I can be. I don't mind coming in and backing him up next year and trying to earn whatever reps that he leaves out there."
