Joey Halzle, QB, 6-4, GOLDEN WEST JUNIOR COLLEGE (CALIFORNIA):
OUIn: How did your visit go to OU this weekend?
JH: "I loved every minute of it. I just committed to OU just a few minutes ago."
OUIn: When we first talked to you last week I could tell you were really intrigued by Oklahoma. What pushed the Sooners over the top with you?
JH: "The facilities are amazing and all the guys are good guys on the team. I just liked everything about it. After thinking about it last night, I just decided to go ahead and commit to them today before I left for the airport."
OUIn: The visit must have exceeded all of your expectations?
JH: "It exceeded everything that I expected. The practices were real cool and it was exciting to sit out there and watch. I just can't imagine anything out there being any better."
OUIn: What did you think about Coach Stoops?
JH: "He is a great guy and he is a great coach. His record speaks for itself. I just really enjoyed him and all the other coaches. Coach (Chuck) Long was just great and was everything that I expected."
OUIn: Did the fact that Coach Long is considered one of the best quarterback coaches in the country have anything to do with your decision?
JH: "That was one of the main reasons why I picked OU. He has coached Heisman Trophy winner and Heisman Trophy runners-up. I am looking forward to getting to OU as soon as possible so that I can get into spring practice and learn from him right away."
OUIn: What do you think about Oklahoma's quarterback situation and the opportunity that you have in front of you?
JH: "Obviously, Rhett is a very good player and he has be considered the starter at Oklahoma. However, I am looking forward to going to Oklahoma and to compete for the job. Competition is what athletics is all about and I am going to go into Oklahoma to compete for the job."
OUIn: Did the coaches tell you that you would be given every opportunity to win the job?
JH: "I was told that I would be able to go in and compete for the job. They told me that they would play the best player, whoever that turned out to be."
OUIn: Are you still graduating at semester?
JH: "I can't wait to get out here. I loved my visit and I can tell it is going to be just great. I love the area and the school, and I can't wait to get involved with the program. I am looking forward to spring practice so much."
OUIn: What did your parents think about your decision?
JH: They are actually thrilled about it. They really liked Coach Long when he came out and met my family and they really like Oklahoma. We are all excited to be Sooners now."
OUIn: Is it overwhelming to think that in just three to four weeks you will be moving to Norman and becoming a part of one of the greatest college football programs in the country?
JH: "I guess, but it is fun though. That is what I have been looking forward to all my life — to get into big time D-1 football. I can't wait for my time to get back out here and jump right into the program."
JH: Are you still taking your other two planned visits?
JH: "I have cancelled those visits — to Michigan and Wyoming."
