RECRUITING: Broken Arrow WR likes the dirty work

Broken Arrow wide receiver Jason Ray does whatever it takes to win. Are the Sooners in the hunt?

JASON RAY, WR, 6Õ1 1Ú2, 195, 4.55, BROKEN ARROW, OK:

If it wasnÕt for Robert Meachum out of Tulsa Washington, everybody would be talking about Ray as the top wide receiver in the state. Before it is all said and done Ray will receive a lot of attention from division-1 schools who want to throw the football.

A 3-year starter, Ray works primarily as a wide receiver, but he does get a little time in the secondary. Ray finished seven touchdowns during his sophomore year. This past year Ray caught 60 passes for 819 yards and 14 touchdowns, which pushed his career total to 118 catches.

ÒI am a good-sized receiver that can go over the middle and I am good at running the go-routes up the field,Ó said Ray. ÒI am a very unselfish receiver who just wants to win. I feel I can come up with the tough catch and I donÕt mind getting dirty and I love to block downfield.Ó

Ray also starts in hoops (8 ppg and 8 rpg) and he runs the 4X100 relay, 100M (11.3) and 200M (22.3).

Last season Ray went to the OU big camp and will go to the OU big camp and one day camp this summer. He will also take in the Kansas State big camp.

ÒI am basically concentrating on my senior year, but I have been contacted by Stanford, OU, Kansas State, Tulsa, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, West Virginia,Ó said Ray.

ÒWest Virginia has offered me and Tulsa has as well. I have been to the OU campus the most and seen their facilities and I was invited to their Red/White game. My sisters go to school there, but right now I have no idea where I want to go and I know I wonÕt make my decision until my senior year is over. I have spoken briefly to both Bob and Mike Stoops when they came by to visit my school, but that is about it right now. I havenÕt really seen OSU's facilities and I really donÕt know what to think of them. I will probably go up and take in a game or something in Stillwater to see what they are about.Ó

Ray has qualified.
