As expected, Broken Arrow offensive lineman Brian Zimpel (6-3, 310, 5.0) became the first verbal commitment for the Sooners' 2003 class when he officially verbaled to Oklahoma Head Coach Bob Stoops at Oklahoma's prospect camp Saturday in Norman .
Zimpel, who was offered for the first time Friday at OU's summer football camp, told OUInsider.com on Tuesday that he always wanted to be a Sooner.
"I have pretty much wanted to go to OU," Zimpel told James Hale on Tuesday. "OU has always been my favorite."
Zimpel went through the Sooners prospect camp on Saturday and participated in the drills that he didn't participate in during the Sooners opening camp earlier in the week.
Zimpel was measured at 6'5 1/2 and says he will now concentrate on getting in shape for next year and getting bigger and stronger.
