RECRUITING: Gaining ground

Sooners make big push for talented Edmond, Okla. linebacker Dane Zaslaw at summer camp

DANE ZASLAW, MLB, 6-2, 240, 4.6, Edmond (Memorial HS), OK:

I had a chance to talk to Jim Zaslaw, the father of inside linebacker Dane Zaslaw out of Edmond Memorial High School.

Jim is a very successfull business man, who has great fun with life. The parents are very close to their son and their relationship is outstanding.

Jim called to tell me that they were thrilled with their camp experience at OU and are totally in love with the OU program. The OU coaches told the Zaslaw's that Dane was very impressive in the camp and OU did extend an offer.

Dane was one of the most impressive players during the camp and his enthusiasm in the hitting drills excited the OU coaches. He proved that he wasn't just a bull, that he could move and he had enough speed to make plays the Oklahoma way. He has the ability to move and cover from sideline to sideline.

Jim said that the family wants Dane to make a decision before the start of two-a-days at Memorial. He is heading to Texas this weekend for a camp and will go to Miami the next week. After that the family is going to sit down and make a decison.

Jim says the family loves Brent Venables, Bob Stoops and the whole Sooner coaching staff. They were very impressed with the Sooner coaches and of course, that means a lot to them. The fact that OU is a 45 minute drive is a major plus as well and that means a lot to Mom and Dad.

Dane is a solid Oklahoma lean as he takes his final two summer recruiting trips. This is an Oklahoma family and the Sooners have now shown a great interest. The family is now fully impressed with how OU went about their business.

At this point it would be a major upset if OU doesn't earn a verbal from Dane Zaslaw.
