Courtney Paris scored 23 points, but none where bigger than final eight of the game scored by Kendra Moore in No. 18 Oklahoma's 73-70 win over No. 8 Baylor Saturday in Waco.
Moore, a junior reserve guard from Ardmore, Okla., scored the Sooners' final eight points of the game, including the game-winning 3-pointer with .8 seconds left that ended defending national champion Baylor's 25-game home winning streak.
Trailing 67-65 after a pair of Baylor free throws with 2:04 to go, Moore tied the game with a jumper in the lane at the 1:40 mark. But Baylor would re-take the lead with 1:14 left when Abiola Wabara hit one of two free throws with 1:04 left.
After an Erin Higgins missed 3-pointer and a missed shot by Bears guard Chameka Scott on the other end, Moore hit a tough 3-pointer from the left wing that gave the Sooners a 70-68 lead with 17 seconds left.
However, Baylor quickly raced the ball up the court and tied the game on an Angela Tisdale layup with 7.2 seconds left. The Sooners then inbounded the ball to Moore, who pushed the ball up the court and hit a 3-pointer from the right wing with .8 seconds left to give OU the win.
Moore finished with 14 points.
Not to be overshadowed by Moore's late heroics was freshman center Courtney Paris. Going head-to-head against first-team All-American and 2005 Final Four MVP Sophia Young, Paris more than held her own hitting nine of her 13 shots en route to 23 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots. Young hit just seven of her 18 shot attempts and finished with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Paris, who recorded her NCAA leading 16th double-double, was also clutch in the second half scoring 15 of her 23 points in the final 20 minutes.
With the win, the Sooners improve to 15-4 overall and remain in sole possession of first place in Big 12 play at 5-0. Baylor falls to 13-3 and 2-3 in conference action.
OU will play Texas Wednesday in Norman. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
