RECRUITING: LB could be next great MWC prospect

Midwest City linebacker Lorenzo Williams names his top six early favorites

The Bombers turn out a great players every year and this yearÕs headliner is Lorenzo Williams. A big, physical middle linebacker, Williams plays with the perfect attitude you look for in a middle linebacker. Williams is a rarity at Midwest City in that he played half the year as a freshman. This season Williams will go into his senior season as a Bomber starter for 3 1Ú2 years and that is saying something in itself.

His freshman season, Williams finished with 20 tackles in four games to go along with two hurries. His sophomore year, Williams finished with 107 tackles, six fumble recoveries (one returned for a touchdown), one interception, three hurries and three sacks. Last season Williams improved to 120 tackles, three interceptions, five fumble recoveries, six fumble causes, two interceptions, three hurries and four sacks.

ÒI donÕt get a chance to blitz that much in our defense,Ó said Williams. ÒThey way our defense is set up I have to play an area to make sure if the blitz elsewhere doesnÕt work I am ready to make the play.Ó

Williams can bench 325 pounds three times and squats 605. Williams wrestled heavyweight at 215 pounds, then when the season was over went out for the basketball team. In track, Williams throws the discus (finished second in state 181Õ1) and qualified for the junior nationals this summer.

Williams will go to the OU and Kansas State summer camps this summer and went to the OU camp last summer. Williams likes Michigan, OU, Kansas State, Kansas, Colorado and Miami, but is keeping his options open. Williams claims to have no favorites and Kansas is the only school that has offered thus far.
