Neal, Sooners get fifth straight with win

Junior guard Michael led the way with 16 points in OU's 71-63 win over A&M.

Norman, Okla. — The 19th-ranked Oklahoma basketball team continued their winning ways with a 71-63 win over Texas A&M Wednesday night in Norman.

Once again, Michael Neal came off the bench to score 16 points, tying his career-high, as the Sooners won their fifth consecutive game and improve to 14-4 overall.

The Sooners trailed early, but Neal's 10 first-half points helped OU build a 40-33 halftime lead. OU pushed the lead to 64-50 on a Neal 3-pointer with 6:17 remaining, but the Aggies would cut the lead to 64-61 with 3:09 left.

Terrell Everett then responded with a huge 3-pointer with 2:38 left, and then his steal and dunk with 58 seconds left pushed OU's lead to 70-63. Everett, who finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals, has scored in double figures in every Big 12 game and is averaging 16.4 points during OU's winning streak.

Joining Everett and Neal in double figures were forwards Taj Gray and Kevin Bookout. Gray finished with 13 points, five rebounds and four blocks, while Bookout added 11 points and seven boards.

Back to Neal, the junior sharp-shooter hit four of his nine 3-point attempts. He has also made 18 of his last 35 attempts from behind the arc.

For the third straight game, the Sooners shot over 50 percent or better from the field (27-54). A&M shot just 39.6 from the field, but stayed in the game hitting 10 of their 15 3-point attempts.

OU also beat the Aggies on the boards, 40-27.

With the win, the Sooners improved to 5-2 in Big 12 play and are currently tied with Kansas and Colorado for second place.

OU will play the Jayhawks in Lawrence on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
