Oklahoma freshman forward Ashley Paris talks to James Hale about the Sooners' big win over Baylor and Wednesday's matchup against Texas.
Paris, who grabbed 10 rebounds and scored four key second half points Sunday against the Bears, is averaging 6.6 points and 7.4 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game in conference play.
On what she thinks when she takes the court against other great players
Ashley Paris: I think it's tough. It's hard. I don't need to tell you how good Sophia (Young) is. Her game speaks for itself.
I think, with Tiffany Jackson (Texas) a junior and Sophia a senior, we're at such a young age that they're preparing us for what's to come. It's good to get a good feel for those type of players.
On if she takes the court in awe of any other player
Ashley Paris: Oh, no. You're going to play against some great post players, but I think the coaching and development that comes along with the collegiate game, it's much different than AAU basketball or high school basketball.
On her being the go-to person when she's in the game and Courtney's on the bench
Ashley Paris: Obviously, I haven't made the impact Courtney has yet, but I feel like I'm getting there. I know I'm young. I'm a freshman and I know that I'm going to get better. I'm just opening up that confidence now that will help me later down the road.
On the second half comeback against Baylor
Ashley Paris: Yeah, coach Coale talked to us all. We had a pretty poor first half as a team, but she was real poised and confident in the locker room. I think that carried over to the rest of the team.
On still winning against great teams despite their turnover problems
Ashley Paris: I think in the Kansas game we had one turnover in the first half, and that was just exciting for us because we turn the ball over a lot.
But once we get that going, it's not going to be like that forever. Once we get more possessions we're going to be really good.
On her first game in Austin against the Longhorns
Ashley Paris: Yeah, they're obviously going to be out to get us but I think everyone has been out to get us.
After going to New Mexico twice and just playing in some of the places we've played, I think that atmosphere shouldn't be that much of a problem for us.
