RECRUITING: Fresno DB has Oklahoma ties

Fresno, Calif. safety Lorenzo Sims, Jr. could join his old teammate in college

LORENZO SIMS, JR., FS, 5Õ11, 175, 4.5, FRESNO EDISON, CALIFORNIA:

Sims took a back seat to Aaron Miller at times last season, but make no mistake about it, college recruiters took plenty of notes on Mr. Sims as well. Like Miller, Sims will be a three-year starter at Edison and he has graded out just as well as the much publicized Miller.

ÒI have always played free safety and Aaron played corner,Ó said Sims. ÒWe were a pretty good tandem in the secondary and really our entire secondary was outstanding. I think free safety is my best position and probably where I will play in college. We played quite a bit of man coverage, but we ran several different zones as well.Ó

Sims finished last season with 108 tackles and seven interceptions. He also caused three fumbles and had one recovery. Sims was busy his sophomore year as well, finishing with 115 tackles and six interceptions. Sims can bench 265 pounds and he has a 32-inch vertical jump. Sims is also a starter in hoops (15 ppg).

Sims went the Cal, UCLA and USC camps last summer and he just returned from the combines at Stanford and USC. Plus, he went to UCLAÕs summer camp. In recruiting, Sims is looking at LSU, Colorado, USC, Nebraska, UCLA, OU and Oregon State.

ÒI would say that I am leaning to USC, but I would say that it is still pretty wide open,Ó said Sims. ÒI like the USC coaching staff. They are very similar to my coaching staff that I have here at Edison. I like Oklahoma too, especially with Aaron going there. That will help me lean toward them and I have a great interest in them. With Aaron going to OU, I would have somebody to hang with, despite the fact that it is a long way from home.Ó

Sims is still looking to qualify.
