RECRUITING: Illinois DL is as tough as they get

Decatur, Illinois DL Mo Dampeer is entertaining offers from a host of schools.

Mo is so tough that he always draws more than one offensive player to try to stop him and none of stopped him yet. Dampeer has been so dominating on the defensive side that he was in the DL rotation even as a freshman. Dampeer has played defensive end all of his life, with a little playing time at defensive tackle.

ÒI think in college I will play a three-technique or outside tackle,Ó said Dampeer. ÒOnce I get into a great strength and conditioning program in college I think I can get my speed down then I think I might be able to play DE in college.Ó

Dampeer stuffed the middle last year to come up with 96 tackles, 13 assists, 12 sacks, five forced fumbles and three fumbles recovered. As a sophomore, Dampeer was spectacular with 47 tackles and set a school records with 15 1Ú2 sacks. Dampeer can bench 315 pounds, but he doesnÕt squat much due to ankle and knee problems, plus a broken foot. Mo is still struggling with a broken bone in his foot, but that wonÕt keep him from playing this upcoming season.

Dampeer hasnÕt been to any camps the past couple of years, choosing instead to workout with his high school team. Dampeer is a two-year starter in hoops (16 ppg and nine rbpg and even four assist per game) and he throws the shot and discus (165Õ2) in track. That throw was good enough for ninth in the state. In hoops Illinois-Chicago, Southern Illinois and Illinois State are all talking to him.

ÒI just think recruiting is fun and I am trying to enjoy it right now,Ó said. ÒI am leaning towards Illinois, Miami, Tennessee, UCLA, but also I like schools like North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia and Virginia Tech. I sort of like Oklahoma a little bit, but I love Nebraska. Much of the recruiting will depend on what schools say to me. I want to play early, so it will depend if schools can give me some playing time early or not.Ó

Mo has yet to take his ACT test.
