Kyle Wright is one of the nation's top prospects and a five star QB (#1 ranking) according to TheInsidersRecruiting.com. The rising senior from Danville (California) Monte Vista High School has a slew of scholarship offers from the who's who of college football'e elite programs - the entire PAC 10, FSU, Miami, Florida, Colorado, Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee, LSU, Texas and Oklahoma to just name a few.
"Sometimes I just sit back and say 'wow'," said Wright. "Back in the 7th grade, going into the 8th grade, I started to get serious about being a quarterback. I have worked hard and thrown a lot of passes. But I would have never imagined this."
Wright, 6-4 and 200 pounds, has all the tools and a tremendous upside as a quarterback. He has the fundamentals, arm strength, intelligence, work ethic and all the intangibles to one day become a superstar.
This summer, he has already camped at USC and next month he plans on attending the prestigious Elite 11 camp. In the meantime, he works hard in the off-season to make his game that much better. That includes running, weight training, fundamentals and of course, throwing a ton of footballs.
In regards to schools, Wright now has three favorites - USC, Miami and Texas.
"I have really gotten to know the coaches on a personal level at Southern Cal. I have been to USC six to seven times... been to practices, the spring game and junior day there. I have gotten to see the coaches in action and how they coach. Plus, Coach Carroll and Chow have a great track record. Coach Chow has had an amazing coaching career in itself.
"Miami is the national champion. How can you NOT look at the Hurricanes? Their QB coach came by the schools and we have had some great conversations on the phone. I have talked with Coach Coker and he seems like a great guy.
"Not too much is bigger than Texas football. Their coaches seem great and Mack Brown is making that a great program.
"I also really like Florida State, Tennessee and Oklahoma.
"I have my own criteria and write down the pros and cons of every school. Honestly, I can not go wrong with any of these programs because they are all great academic and athletic institutions. Something I have come to understand is that there will be competition everywhere and I am not afraid of that. Much of my decision will come down to what college puts me in the best position after football."
This August, Wright and his father will unofficially visit Miami, Florida State, Tennessee, Texas, and Oklahoma. They will also try and get to Notre Dame. Wright is hoping these unofficial visits will expedite the recruiting process for him.
"I am hoping to have a decision in August or so because my team is the most important thing to me. I would love to have a decision made by the time the season starts."
