Hoops: Sooner women land guard

Marshall, Ark. guard Jenny Vining talks about her commitment to Oklahoma.

JH: You have committed to OU and will be apart of the 2007 class. Why OU?

JV: "We went up there for the Michigan State game and met everyone. It was just a great atmosphere and everybody was really nice. Then we went back at the end of March and toured the school and everything. Everybody was really nice again and things just clicked. It just seemed perfect for me.

"I really liked their style of basketball and I couldn't believe how nice everybody was. The players and coaches took the time to go out and eat with me and they didn't have to do that. Coach Thrailkill has been great through the whole process and he played a big part of it."

JH: So it was a great visit that paid off for OU?

JV: "We went to an Oklahoma baseball game and then the coaches showed me around and everything. We just enjoyed our time so much. Like I said, so many players and coaches came out and ate with us and they didn't have to do that. In fact, a number of other schools didn't do that with us. OU just went the extra distance to show me that they wanted me on their team."

JH: What were your stats last season?

JV: "I averaged 22 points, three steals, and four assists and three to four rebounds per game."

JH: How would you describe your game?

JV: "I am really aggressive, upbeat and love to run and shoot the ball. I definitely want the ball for the last shot. Most people would say that I am an offensive player, but I know defense is important, and I play on defense hard.

"I felt that, at Oklahoma, I wouldn't just become another shooter. That they would see that I can do a number of different things, and they would help me develop into becoming a total player."

JH: What other schools did you consider?

JV: "I also considered Missouri State, Arkansas State, Missouri and Arkansas."

JH: Have you been an Oklahoma basketball fan?

"I have always been an OU fan, I guess."
