RECRUITING: Garland speedster a lock for UT?

Garland, Texas CB Steve Richardson has OU in his top two, but can they overcome his favorite?

Talk about a blazer, Richardson has been timed in the 4.2 range and says he has run a 4.17 forty. That's Smokin! Richardson is so gifted he is heading into his fourth year as a starter as a running back, wide receiver and safety. Richardson hasn't exactly played corner at Garland, but that where college recruiters project him.

"College coaches tell me that I am too short for safety, so they want to play me at cornerback," said Richardson. "I am going to enjoy playing corner and I am looking forward to the move."

Richardson picked off three passes last season and said he made around 60 tackles. Richardson can bench 300 pouns, squats 445 and he has a 36-inch vertical jump. Richardson is strictly a football guy and he works all summer with his teammates in Garland.

Six different schools have offered Richardson at this point and the Longhorns are his early leader.

"I like Texas the best right now," said Richardson. "Texas has always been my favorite and they have offered me early. I am also looking UCLA, OU, Florida and Texas A&M. I am thinking hard about committing early to Texas, but I am not sure at this point. I have other good football teams that I am looking at, like Oklahoma. I would say that OU is my second choice right now."

Richardson has qualified.
